"Before there were highways, there were rivers! The Upper Salmon River moved logs from far up its watershed to a lumber mill in Alma. Evidence of this river’s industrial past can still be seen along the 8.2 km Upper Salmon River Trail; look for remnants of old logs and dams poking out from the river’s banks.
The rocky terrain of this river valley trail is challenging at times, and two river crossings force hikers to remove their boots. The reward: crystal clear swimming pools and rugged river rapids, perfect for wading, swimming, or simply watching.
On a clear fall day, keep your eyes open for the majestic Inner Bay of Fundy salmon, for which this river is named.

River Crossings
Several trails in the park have river crossings. When water levels are high, crossing the river can be dangerous. Water levels are monitored and crossings are closed when conditions are hazardous. At these times, signs are posted at the trailhead to indicate the closure. If you are unsure about water conditions, don't take a chance.
